Ballroom and Latin for adults

For singles and couples, 18 and up. No partner needed.

Our adult classes teach one dance at a time: waltz, foxtrot, tango, rumba and cha-cha. A class lasts an hour and holds up to 16 dancers, and partners rotate every few minutes, so you meet the whole room.

What a class is like

  1. 01

    Step 1: Warm-up and walk

We start by walking the floor to the music, in time and in line of dance.

  2. 02

    Step 2: The night's basic

The teacher shows one basic step and the hold that goes with it, and you try it alone first.

  3. 03

    Step 3: A rotating partner

You dance the step with a new partner every few minutes, taking turns to lead and follow.

  4. 04

    Step 4: A short pattern

Once the basic is steady, the class adds a turn or a change of direction.

  5. 05

Step 5: Questions at the end

The last minutes are yours: ask about a step, a song or what to try next.

What to wear and bring

Wear what you can move in. Smooth-soled shoes with a closed heel work well, and socks are fine in the first weeks.

  • Clothes

Anything you can move in, without a stiff waistband or a long hem.

  • Shoes

A smooth sole and a closed heel, or socks in the first weeks.

  • A water bottle

There is a tap in the hall.

Level and your teacher

  • Where you start

Each dance has its own path, so you begin with the dance you choose and move on when your teacher says. See the dances page for the steps in each.

Basilio teaches the waltz, foxtrot and tango classes and leads the first-Friday social. He teaches in English and in Spanish.
